A colourful Highlands micro-wedding

Nestled atop a hill in Glen Affric of the Scottish Highlands, vows were made amidst a heatwave. As an alternative wedding photographer based in Edinburgh, I had the pleasure of capturing the unique love story of a couple who dared to celebrate their special day in an unconventional way.

The Heatwave Chronicles

In the midst of a Scottish heatwave, the atmosphere was not the only thing sizzling – so was the excitement for this wee wedding. Having driven up the night before from Edinburgh, I camped in my trusty campervan at a nearby campsite, ready ready to capture the day.

A Personalised Ceremony

The day began with an intimate gathering of the couple and their immediate family for a ceremony that was as unique as their love story. The ceremony, set against the stunning backdrop of Glen Affric, featured a special moment as the couple drank from the quaich, sealing their commitment to a lifetime of shared adventures.

Secret Vows

After the legalities were concluded, the couple stole away to a secluded spot to exchange personal vows they had written for each other. This private exchange added a layer of intimacy to the day, showcasing the depth of their connection beyond the traditional wedding rituals.

Capturing Love Amidst Nature

A short walk led us to the perfect spots for capturing the couple's love against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. As their families enjoyed a picnic, we seized the opportunity to immortalize the day with vibrant, candid shots, reflecting the joy and warmth that surrounded the celebration.

A Symphony of Colors

The day unfolded in a burst of colour. From the lush greens of Glen Affric to the radiant hues of their handmade streamers in lieu of confetti, every moment was a testament to the uniqueness of their love and the unconventional beauty of their wedding day.

In the heart of Glen Affric, this unconventional wedding proved that love knows no bounds. Beyond the traditional trappings, this couple celebrated their commitment in a way that was authentic to them, and as an alternative wedding photographer, it was a joy to capture their love amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
