Newborn Session - FAQ’s

What to expect from your newborn lifestyle shoot

Recently, I’ve been answering some questions about my newborn shoots over on Instagram so I thought I’d do a little round up of FAQ’s here too about my relaxed at home newborn shoots.

Q - “where does the shoot take place?”

I come to you! We work in your home and it’s super relaxed. I show up and have a wee nosey to see where the best light is. We’ll usually shoot in the living room, your bedroom and maybe even the nursery & garden (if you have one!). Don’t worry about anything beforehand, I can move stuff out the way if needed & I can chuck an unmade bed together in a few minutes - you’ve got a new baby, your job is just to relax and enjoy them.

Q - “when do I need to book?”

This one is entirely up to you. Some people like to book when they’re still pregnant for a specific day following their due date but we know babies are notoriously unpredictable, so there’s always flexibility and I keep slots free for that eventuality. Others prefer to wait till baby is here safe and sound and that’s a-ok too! Likewise, some people don’t even think about photography till later on, and that’s all good - just drop me a message and I’ll do my best to accommodate you ASAP.

Q - “I’ve been told my baby needs to be less than 2 weeks old for newborn photography!”

Not for me! Some photographers that work from a studio and pose babies in certain positions for props might require this but there’s no need for this in an at home lifestyle session. I’ve photographed babies at 2 weeks, 2 months, 9 months and everything in between. It’s never too late to capture those little details. I don't pose babies any partiular way, instead, I'm there to document you as a family with your new addition.

Q - “can the shoot include extra family or siblings?”

Absolutely! If baby has an older sibling then I’ll usually try to work with them first to try and optimise the time while I having their attention! Some of my absolute favourite newborn sessions have included siblings, it’s such a special new friendship to shoot. Often, young siblings will feel more omfortable in their own surrounding and so it can make the shoot that bit easier. Furry friends are also actively encouraged!

Q - “what areas do you cover?”

I am based in West Lothian and am happy to travel up to an hour - this includes Glasgow, Edinburgh, East Lothian & Fife. I am happy to travel further afield for shoots but they may incur a small travel fee. This is the same for all my sessions.

A lifestyle session at home really is the perfect way to document your new addition. We go slow, we take time to feed and change and whatever else you need to do, there's no pressure to be a certain way. Every baby session differs and that's what I love so much about them. Capturing those real & raw connections is such a massive privilege.

If you have any more questions or if you’d like more info on booking you can drop me a message, I’d love to hear from you!
