A colourful city wedding at The Edinburgh Grand

Let’s dive into Ewan & Scott’s intimate celebration at the Cheval Edinburgh Grand

When Ewan and Scott first reached out to me from Toronto about their wedding plans, I knew their day would be something special. Their vision was clear—an intimate celebration filled with love, laughter, and their closest people. Throw in a picturesque Edinburgh backdrop, a rainbow confetti moment, and some creative problem-solving thanks to Taylor Swift, and you’ve got a wedding day to remember!

Toronto to Edinburgh: A Change of PlanS

Ewan and Scott’s wedding journey started all the way across the Atlantic. When they initially booked me, they were living in Toronto for work but planning to return to Scotland for their big day. Originally scheduled for June, their plans took a twist when they realised their date clashed with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Edinburgh. With every hotel in the city fully booked, they had to rethink their timeline. Their quick pivot paid off, resulting in a relaxed, love-filled day in the heart of Edinburgh.

Getting Ready in Style

The day began at a gorgeous AirBnB in Edinburgh’s New Town. This stunning space was the perfect spot for Ewan, Scott, and their loved ones to get ready. The atmosphere was full of excitement, laughter, and a few pre-wedding jitters. I captured candid moments of final touches and those little interactions that tell the story of the day before it even officially starts.

A Stroll Through New Town

S+E wanted some really relaxed images, no crazy posing, no awkward smiles, so before the ceremony, we set off on foot for their couple’s portraits, taking a longer, more picturesque route from the AirBnB to The Cheval Edinburgh Grand. New Town’s cobblestone streets, elegant stoops, and historic charm made the perfect backdrop for these relaxed and joyful images. Ewan and Scott’s energy was infectious. When we arrived at St Andrew’s square, we even made a quick stop at Lady Libertine for a pint with their mums—because why not?

An Emotional Ceremony

Held at The Cheval Edinburgh Grand, the ceremony was intimate and full of heart. Scott’s cousin delivered an incredible reading, adding a personal touch. Capturing these genuine moments is one of the things I love most about documentary wedding photography.

After the ceremony, we headed outside for an epic rainbow confetti throw that brought all the colour and joy to this already amazing day.

Speeches and Celebrations

Back inside, the celebration continued with a joint speech by the two grooms before dinner. As Ewan and Scott had opted for a half-day package, their wedding was a beautifully condensed celebration, focused on the people who matter most. They planned to host a big party the following day, and this wee wedding was the perfect prelude.

Why Ewan & Scott’s Wedding Stood Out

Their wedding day perfectly reflected who they are—laid-back, vibrant, and full of love. It’s weddings like this that remind me why I love an Edinburgh city wedding. Every moment felt authentic and personal, from the meaningful ceremony to the pint with their mums.
