A Unique Glasgow Wedding at Grosvenor Picture House and Òran Mór
When you think of a wedding day filled with creative flair, urban charm, and pure joy, Philip and Edith’s incredible Glasgow wedding immediately springs to mind. As an Scottish-based wedding photographer who loves vibrant, relaxed, and authentic celebrations, I’m always thrilled to hop over to the west coast for weddings like this one. From a stunning ceremony at the iconic Grosvenor Picture House to a lively reception at Òran Mór, this day had everything – including a guest appearance from their adorable dog, Harris (he stole the show!)!
Preparations in the Heart of the West End
The day began with all the girls getting ready at a lovely hotel in Glasgow’s West End. It was such a relaxed and fun atmosphere as Edith and her bridesmaids prepared for the big day. Edith’s dress was something truly special – it was custom-made by her incredibly talented friend Vivian, who was even on hand with a trusty steamer to make sure everything was perfect. Once everyone was ready, we all walked to the ceremony venue together, which made for such a fantastic photo opportunity. The energy and excitement in those moments were absolutely contagious!
A Cinematic Ceremony at Grosvenor Picture House
The day began with a truly unique ceremony at the Grosvenor Picture House on Ashton Lane. Honestly, if you’re looking for a wedding venue that’s anything but ordinary, this is it. The intimate atmosphere made the perfect setting for Philip and Edith’s vows, creating a moment that felt both grand and personal. Adding to the magic was their celebrant, Carole Smillie – yes, that Carole Smillie from the telly! She was absolutely brilliant and brought so much warmth and personality to the ceremony. I’ll admit, I was a little starstruck, but she made everyone feel so at ease. Ashton Lane’s cobbled streets and urban vibes were an amazing contrast to the romantic backdrop of the ceremony – talk about a photographer’s dream! We couldn’t leave without an epic confetti throw… Obviously!
A Picturesque Stroll to Òran Mór
After the ceremony, we took a short walk through Ashton Lane to the reception venue, Òran Mór. This historic building is such a gem, combining stunning architecture with a cosy, welcoming feel. Along the way, we stopped at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens for some couple’s portraits and family photos, making the most of stunning foliage backdrops and soft, natural light. One of the highlights? Capturing moments with Harris, Philip and Edith’s sweet dog, who was just as much a part of the day as anyone else. If you’re planning to include your furry friend in your wedding, I’m 100% here for it.
Bold and Beautiful Wedding Details
Every detail of this wedding was carefully considered, and it showed. The bridesmaids looked effortlessly cool in mismatched pink dresses, which added a modern yet cohesive touch to the bridal party. And the florals? Incredible. They were bold, artistic, and full of personality, with sculptural designs in vibrant pinks and reds that perfectly complemented the day’s aesthetic. It’s details like these that make each wedding I photograph so unique and special.
A Party to Remember
Let’s talk about the party at Òran Mór. From heartfelt speeches to a packed dance floor, the evening was a true celebration. The venue’s atmospheric lighting and beautiful interiors set the stage for some unforgettable candid shots of Philip, Edith, and their guests. There’s something about Glasgow weddings that just hit differently – the energy, the music - immaculate vibes!
Why I Love Glasgow Weddings
As a west coast girl at heart, I have such a soft spot for Glasgow weddings. The city’s mix of urban grit and stunning architecture creates endless opportunities for unique photography. Whether it’s the quirky charm of Ashton Lane or the grandeur of venues like Òran Mór, Glasgow has a vibe all its own. If you’re planning a wedding here, I’d love to capture it for you.
